About KLIA Terminal 2 (klia2)
KLIA.Info » About Terminal 2Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2, commonly known as klia2, is a modern terminal dedicated primarily to low-cost and hybrid airlines.
Officially
opened on 2 May 2014, klia2 was designed to accommodate the rapid growth of
budget air travel in Malaysia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. It is one of
the largest purpose-built low-cost carrier terminals in the world, with the
capacity to handle more than 45 million passengers annually.
Located adjacent to the Main Terminal (KLIA Terminal 1), klia2 is seamlessly
connected via the free inter-terminal shuttle bus,
KLIA Ekspres and
KLIA Transit
rail services, providing fast and convenient access to Kuala Lumpur city centre.
The terminal also features extensive road connectivity, with dedicated taxi,
ride-hailing, bus, and private vehicle facilities.
klia2 offers a wide range of passenger amenities, including self-check-in
kiosks, automated bag-drop counters, spacious departure halls, and modern
immigration facilities. One of its key highlights is gateway@klia2, an
integrated shopping and dining complex that houses numerous retail outlets,
restaurants, cafés, convenience stores, and essential services, allowing
passengers to shop and dine both before and after flights.
The terminal primarily serves AirAsia and its affiliates, along with
several
other low-cost and regional airlines operating domestic and international routes
across Asia, Australia, and selected long-haul destinations. Facilities for
passengers with reduced mobility, family travellers, and transit passengers are
well provided for, ensuring a comfortable airport experience.
With its efficient layout, extensive commercial offerings, and strong transport
links, klia2 plays a vital role in positioning Kuala Lumpur as a major low-cost
aviation hub in Southeast Asia, complementing the full-service operations at
KLIA Terminal 1.
KLIA2 was rebranded as “KLIA Terminal 2” following a government decision
announced in early 2023, to improve their marketability and competitiveness.
