Sultan Ismail Petra Airport

Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (IATA: KBR, ICAO: WMKC) is an airport serving the city of Kota Bharu in the state of Kelantan, Malaysia. Previously known as Pengkalan Chepa Airport, it is located in the Pengkalan Chepa area, about 8 to 10 km (5 to 6 mi) northeast of Kota Bharu city center.

Sultan Ismail Petra Airport is a medium-sized domestic airport and the busiest airport on the Malaysian East Coast. It is named after Sultan Ismail Petra, the 28th Sultan of Kelantan.

The airport mainly handles domestic flights connecting to major Malaysian cities and some regional routes. It is currently being developed in phases to expand capacity.

The airport plays a key role in facilitating tourism and business travel in Kelantan and surrounding East Coast states. Its facilities are modern with a Moorish-inspired terminal design. The travel experience is generally efficient with relatively short waiting times compared to larger international airports.

Sultan Ismail Petra Airport acts as an important hub for connections between the East Coast and other parts of Malaysia.

The terminal has multiple check-in counters, boarding gates, and 3 aerobridges. It houses restaurants, cafes, shops, ATMs, and prayer rooms (surau). Basic passenger services such as luggage trolleys, information counters, and car rental desks are available.

Transportation

Bus: Local bus services such as Cityliner or Citilink Route 9 connect the airport to Kota Bharu city. The buses operate roughly between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm with fares around RM 2.00.

Taxi: Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall with fares charged based on the distance. The fare to Kota Bharu city center is about RM 30 to 40.

Car Rental: Several car rental companies operate at the airport, offering vehicles for travel around Kelantan.
