Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA T1), formerly known simply as KLIA, is the main and original terminal of the airport, officially opened on 27 June 1998.

Designed by renowned Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, Terminal 1 is known for its spacious layout, modern facilities, and integration of natural elements, reflecting Malaysia’s “airport in the forest, forest in the airport” concept.

KLIA Terminal 1 primarily serves full-service and international airlines, including Malaysia Airlines and many major global carriers. The terminal is designed to handle long-haul and regional flights, offering extensive connectivity to destinations across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and beyond. With its central location in Sepang, Selangor, KLIA T1 acts as a major aviation hub for Southeast Asia.

The terminal features multiple concourses, including the Satellite Building, which is connected to the Main Terminal Building via an automated Aerotrain system. Facilities at KLIA T1 include airline lounges, duty-free shopping, retail outlets, restaurants, prayer rooms, medical services, and transit hotels, ensuring a comfortable experience for both departing and transiting passengers.

Transportation access to and from KLIA Terminal 1 is well developed. Passengers can reach the terminal via KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit train services, airport taxis, ride-hailing services, buses, and private vehicles. Ample parking facilities are also available.

With its focus on premium services, efficient operations, and global connectivity, KLIA Terminal 1 continues to play a vital role in Malaysia’s aviation network and remains the primary gateway for international travelers visiting the country.
