Launched in 1998, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is one of the Southeast Asia’s major aviation hubs.

Located approximately 45 km south of Kuala Lumpur city centre, the airport sits at the southern corridor of Peninsular Malaysia, bordering the states of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. KLIA is well connected to the rest of the country via a comprehensive network of highways and expressways.

KLIA comprises two terminals: the Main Terminal Building (Terminal 1) and Terminal 2 (klia2). Opened in May 2014, klia2 is a purpose-built terminal dedicated to low-cost carriers and is widely recognised as the world’s largest terminal designed specifically for this segment. Situated just 2 km from the main terminal, klia2 is easily accessible through the same road infrastructure serving KLIA.

Designed to international standards, KLIA is fully equipped to accommodate wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A380. The airport offers a wide range of passenger amenities, including international and local retail outlets, duty-free shopping, cafés, restaurants, and premium lounges, providing comfort and convenience for travellers.

With a strong focus on passenger experience, KLIA features modern facilities aimed at improving passenger flow, reducing congestion, and enhancing overall travel efficiency. Entertainment, relaxation, and business facilities are also available to ensure a smooth and pleasant journey.

KLIA operates three parallel runways, each approximately 4,000 metres in length, serving both terminals. The airport has an annual handling capacity of up to 70 million passengers and offers connectivity to over 100 destinations worldwide. Over the years, KLIA has developed into a model airport and continues to strengthen its position as a key regional aviation gateway.

In addition to travelling by car or public transportation, passengers can reach KLIA via the high-speed Express Rail Link (ERL), which operates both the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit services. These trains connect the airport directly to the City Air Terminal (CAT) at KL Sentral, where departing passengers may check in for their flights before boarding.

The KLIA Ekspres completes the journey between KL Sentral and KLIA’s Main Terminal Building in just 28 minutes, while the KLIA Transit takes approximately 37 minutes. Passengers travelling to klia2 can transfer from the Main Terminal Building via a dedicated inter-terminal train, with a journey time of around three minutes using the same ERL system.
