Unaccompanied Minors at KLIA

Minors travelling alone are categorized into 3 groups:

a) Unaccompanied Minors (UM): 5-12; obligatory per IATA to travel with airline’s assistance; registered and known to crew;

b) Young Passengers (YP): 12-18; believed to manage on own; not registered; and

c) Minors Third Party (MTP): minors accompanied during their journey by a third party that is not a parent/guardian; not registered.

For Airlines provide assistance to unaccompanied children below 12 years, the Airlines staff will takes responsibility of the minor post check-in until handing over to an authorized person at the destination. There are two special handling counters in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at E15 and E16 for unaccompanied minors and disabled passengers.
