Opened in 2001 and named after Sabiha Gökçen, the airport plays a key role in handling both domestic and international traffic, particularly for low-cost and regional carriers. It serves as a major hub for Pegasus Airlines.
Facilities
The airport operates primarily from a modern single integrated terminal
building that handles both domestic and international flights. Facilities
include check-in counters, self-service kiosks, immigration and customs
services, baggage claim areas, lounges, retail shops, and duty-free outlets.
Dining options range from cafés and fast-food chains to sit-down restaurants
offering Turkish and international cuisine.
Free Wi-Fi is available
throughout the terminal. Additional services include ATMs, currency exchange
counters, pharmacies, medical services, prayer rooms, baby care rooms, and car
rental services.
Airlines
Airlines operating at SAW include Pegasus Airlines, Turkish Airlines (limited operations), AJet, Qatar Airways, Flydubai, and several European and Middle Eastern carriers. The airport offers extensive domestic routes across Türkiye as well as international connections to Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa.

Sabiha Gökçen International Airport is connected to Istanbul via multiple
transport options. The M4 metro line links the airport directly to the Kadıköy
district, providing convenient access to the city’s Asian side and ferry
connections to the European side. Airport shuttle buses (Havabus) operate
services to key locations such as Taksim and Kadıköy. Taxis are available 24/7,
and private transfers and car rental services are widely accessible.
Sabiha Gökçen International Airport continues to expand its passenger capacity
and remains an important hub for low-cost and regional air travel, complementing
